Capt. Watson is Master and Commander of 177 Sea Shepherd Voyages enforcing laws to protect the earth's marine wildlife and wilderness habitats. He is a world-renowned expert on the state of the oceans and has addressed International audiences for over 25 years.

Biography

A seasoned Coast Guard officer, specialist in media communications, Co-founder of Greenpeace and Founder of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Paul Watson is a pioneer in the modern-day environmental movement and is uniquely qualified to speak on its origins, history, and future.

A maverick activist with a thoroughgoing knowledge of the uses of media, great personal courage, and an intrinsic understanding of environmental strategy, he has lived on of the most extraordinary lives of our time. Watson's deep convictions about the preservation of the earth and its species are matched by an equally strong belief that personal convictions mean nothing unless one acts on them.

As a professor of ecology, Paul Watson has taught college courses at UCLA and Pasadena Art Center College on the History of Environmental Activism. He created one of the first accredited courses on deep ecology ever presented. His unique presentation includes dramatic video of his daring exploits, from the genesis of Greenpeace to the current-day high seas campaigns of Sea Shepherd, followed by a question/answer period.

As the "father" of Direct Action Environmentalism, Paul Watson captivates audiences as he unfolds the events which led to the beginning of the contemporary environmental movement and the concurrent evolution of the media's role in it.

He has delivered more than 800 lectures worldwide on the birth of the environmental movement, the importance of direct action, the media culture society of today, and environmental law.

To say Paul Watson "lectures" is an understatement - he inspires action through example, educates through experience, and leaves the audience with a profound understanding of their own power and their ability to make a difference in the world.

Paul Watson can tell your audience:

  • what it meant to be present at the birth of the modern-day environmental movement
  • how the "dolphin safe" tuna label came to be, and how efforts to kill it were turned back
  • how Canada's seals were saved with vegetable dye and why the fight to save them had to be restarted
  • how direct intervention can make the difference between extinction and survival of species
  • why the oceans are dying
  • how a committed individual can change the world
