Note: Just after 19:00 we left the Vaquita Refuge heading to Puerto Peñasco.
Today we saw a few pangas inside the ZTA in the morning; two at 7:00 and one at 8:00 were transiting. A Navy ship Interceptor was patrolling during the morning. They checked on the dive pangas that were in the center of the ZTA.
At 14:35 we spotted a panga with two nets in the water just at the border of the south area of the ZTA. We contacted the Navy and a Defender vessel arrived after 20 minutes. The panga (named Cachana’s I) recovered their first net from the water, and the Navy started to pull the second net from one side. Then the panga rushed to the other end and started to pull. Eventually the Navy cut their end and they confiscated the part of it that they retrieved. Cachana’s I left the area at 15:45. After that we didn’t spot any pangas in the ZTA until we left towards Puerto Peñasco.
