The weather forecast for the day was not good for Vaquita Survey conditions; we proceeded with normal monitoring operations in the ZTA.
Shortly after 10:30 we spotted a small boat in the south area of the ZTA. We contacted the Navy when we saw they had two nets in the water. They arrived an hour later, and the fishermen started to retrieve one of the nets when they saw the Navy approaching. The Navy went for the other net and proceeded to pull it in. Then the fishermen tried to get this second net on board from the other end, but they gave up and went back to the first net. The Navy confiscated the first net and went towards the fishermen that were still pulling their net. They both made contact with each other and then the small boat proceeded to move away, and the Navy finished pulling in the net. At 13:37 both the Navy boat and the fishermen small boat were underway to San Felipe.
Apart from that one small boat, there wasn’t any more fishing activity seen during the day.
