Total number of different small fishing boats fishing today in the ZTA: 1

Total number of different small fishing boats fishing today in the ZTA Extension: 2.

Total number of different small fishing boats fishing today in the ZTA Buffer Zone: 7.

Activity started before 7:00 in the southeast area. Around 7:40 one small boat drifted from the buffer zone to the ZTA, but 10 minutes later they went back to the buffer zone; we contacted the Navy. We flew the drone and saw they had a net on board the small boat. Around 9:50 they were inside the border again, this time retrieving a net. The Navy vessel Interceptor arrived at 9:58 and started persecuting the panga, which tried to escape. The Navy chased them to land, where they confiscated the panga and detained them.

At 11:00, a minimum of 12 nets (pair of flags in the surface) were counted with binoculars in the buffer zone and Vaquita Refuge. Considering that visual observation of nets in the water have limitations regarding identifying the same ones after an hour, the number of different small boats fishing in the buffer zone is a downward approximation.

At 13:45 we flew the drone to check on 3 targets in the ZTA Extension, and two small boats retrieving nets and one stationary with no nets around.

As it got darker, many small boats began crossing back to San Felipe and there was no activity observed at night.
