Hear From Our Crew
”Hi there!Jasmin LumnitzChief Cook - Farley Mowat
My name is Jasmin and I recently joined Sea Shepherd Conservation Society as Chief Cook on one of their vessels. I first heard about the organization a few years ago and the great work they do. As soon as I saw that anybody can join in as a volunteer I decided I want to go and help out! And I can definitely say, after being here, it is a wonderful opportunity. Fighting at the front lines of saving marine wildlife feels amazing. Being active in nature conservation is very meaningful work and I am honored to be a part of it!
”Spending time in wild solitude reunites us with our true nature. It was soon apparent that somewhere along the line I lost a piece of me I never knew. Sea Shepherd has allowed me to reconnect with individuals who understand what we are losing, what is at stake, and that once lost will be forever gone. Now I fight with Sea Shepherd on the frontlines for the future of my family, my friends, and my planet.Willem BurgerCaptain - Farley Mowat
”I have been working in the marine research and conservation sector for 35 years as a vessel master, researcher leader and operations leader. Joining Sea Shepherd was a natural fit for me and now having been the master of most of the Sea Shepherd vessels on a range of campaigns, I feel the need and importance of our work continues to increase. Making change requires participation and efforts from a range of sources. Community members need to generate grass-roots momentum. The research community needs to generate the defensible evidence for change. Policy developers and implementers need work the system from the inside. Front line compliance operations need to enforce the regulations and treaties. All are needed to achieve change. Sea Shepherd operates across all of these sectors through providing vessels for researchers, leading and supporting compliance operations, and generating grass-roots momentum. This is why the organisation has been so effective.Mark GibbsCaptain - Farley Mowat
”I've spent most of my life on and around the ocean, and as a professional mariner I feel like I have a responsibility to protect our marine ecosystems, and the animals that call them home. We must step up, and take action to protect, conserve and defend our planet. The work that Sea Shepherd does to protect the world oceans, and the creatures that live there, is so important. I think that we can all make a difference, no matter what your walk of life, by taking action. If you can't head out to sea and participate directly, then change your habits, change your diets. Inform yourself about what's going on in the world, and spread that knowledge. We can all work together to change the tide.Megan WattCaptain - Sharpie
”Since I started sailing in 2019, I've been wanting to do more for the oceans, and Sea Shepherd was the perfect place to make a difference. I worked at the shipyard for 3 months, learning all the tricks for boat maintenance. I wasn't counting on going to a campaign, but then Sea Shepherd gave me that opportunity. I didn't ever think I'd be made bosun, but they gave me that too. Sea Shepherd has been an amazing school. I left with so many new skills and most importantly great friendships.Nicolas CamaraBosun - JPD
