Welcome to the Portland Chapter of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society! We are a newly formed chapter in the state of Oregon. We are excited about supporting our crews and campaigns, as well as taking on some of the many issues that need to be tackled here in the Pacific Northwest! We will start working with local businesses and restaurants, encouraging them to take on sustainability in our green state by reducing the distribution of single-use plastics. Our goals include working to restore the Salmon habitat on the Columbia River, and the health of the watersheds in the Pacific Northwest. This effort will help produce an abundance of food for the many marine mammals that inhabit our rivers and coast line, such as whales, dolphins, seal lions, otters, and more. We will work to end the culling of sea lions at the Bonneville dam & Willamette Falls by educating the public of the detrimental effects this slaughter has on the health of the water’s ecosystem.
Our chapter members participate in outreach and fundraising at fairs, festivals and concerts. We attend Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife meetings, host fundraising events, and clean our local beaches and rivers. We also organize film screenings, as well as educate school-age children in their classroom setting.
Please join us in educating the public on the importance of caring for our oceans, rivers, and watersheds, and help us support our crews & campaigns!
