What your support made possible
Dear Weeden Foundation,
Thank you for your continued support of Sea Shepherd's work in the Vaquita Refuge. Your partnership helps sustain a permanent presence in one of Mexico's most critical marine habitats, where illegal fishing gear continues to threaten endangered species and the broader ecosystem.
While this region is best known as the last refuge of the vaquita, the same illegal nets targeting totoaba are impacting far more than a single species. Sea lions, seabirds, sharks, rays, and countless other marine animals are caught in the same gear. These threats are ongoing, and they require a constant presence on the water to address them in real time.
The footage shared here offers a closer look at our sea lion response operations inside the refuge. These rescues are not separate from our mission. They are a direct result of the same illegal fishing pressure your support helps us confront. Every disentanglement, every response, is part of a broader effort to keep deadly gear out of protected waters.
In 2026, your support will continue to power vessel operations, fuel, surveillance technology, and coordinated patrols alongside Mexican authorities. Sustained presence is what allows our crews to detect threats, respond quickly, and reduce the impact of illegal fishing as it happens.
We are deeply grateful for your support and the stability it provides in the Vaquita Refuge. Because of your partnership, Sea Shepherd remains on the water, protecting marine wildlife where it is most at risk.
