The Scale of the Industry

Industrial fleets extract Antarctic krill at scale to supply supplements and feed, competing directly with the whales, penguins, and seals that depend on it.

Krill is pulled from the Southern Ocean by the hundreds of thousands of tonnes each year, processed into oil and meal, and sold into supplement aisles and feed supply chains around the world. Thousands of retailers and producers still carry these products. A growing coalition has chosen to stop, and is keeping krill off its shelves for good.

WatchWhy Antarctic krill matters: the species at the base of the Southern Ocean food web.
