What your support made possible
Park Foundation, thank you for standing with our crews in the Upper Gulf of California. Your support helps power a mission with a true 24/7 presence on the water, protecting marine wildlife in one of the most challenging and contested fisheries on the planet.
Sustained presence at this level is rare in any remote region. It is the kind of operational continuity most often reserved for strategic government missions. In the Vaquita Refuge, it means our crews can respond immediately when illegal activity returns, coordinate closely with Mexican authorities and scientific partners, and remove active illegal nets before they can do harm.
The decade of work behind this campaign is showing results. The latest survey is reporting a stabilizing trend in the vaquita porpoise population, an early signal that consistent protection can hold the line. The vaquita is the canary in the coal mine for the Gulf. When it declines, the entire ecosystem is under threat. When it holds, it tells us that focused enforcement and sustained protection can work.
We are grateful for your partnership in making that protection possible.
