Are you thinking of selling or trading in that old car, boat, truck, trailer or RV? Why not donate it instead? Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) has partnered with the CARS to provide an easy-to-use, tax-deductible process to donate your vehicle or vessel. Your charitable contribution could make a big difference to help insure the continued success of our marine conservation programs!
SSCS can accept donations of vehicles and vessels from all 50 U.S. states. The process is easy, quick and convenient. And because we do all the work, your time is not wasted trying to sell your vehicle.
Please use this form to donate your car, boat, truck, trailer or RV. Once you submit the form, the towing company and customer service department will contact you via telephone within four business days at the latest. If you need the pick-up sooner, please let us know as we may be able to make those arrangements as well.
If you have any questions you would like answered prior to initiating the donation process, please see our FAQ below or contact CARS (855-550-GIVE).
Thank you for your donation!
Remember, your unwanted vehicle or vessel is tax deductible and makes a positive difference for endangered marine wildlife in our world’s oceans.
Sea Shepherd Vehicle Donation Program FAQ
1. What can I donate?
A: We accept most vehicles and vessels including but not limited to cars, trucks, trailers, boats and RV’s.
2. Is my donation tax deductible?
A: Yes. Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is classified with the IRS as non-profit charitable 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Individual tax situations vary so please check with a tax professional to determine what if any tax benefit you may receive.
3. What do I need to donate my vehicle?
A: We would like the title to the vehicle, but if you do not have it please call CARS (855-550-GIVE) anyway. It is possible that other arrangements may be made.
4. My car hasn’t run in years. Can I still donate it?
A: Yes, we are able to accept most vehicles running or not (exceptions include older vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing). To find out if we can accept your vehicle, please submit a donation form.
5. Can you pick up vehicles in all 50 states?
A: Yes, we are able to pick up accepted vehicles in the continental U.S., Alaska and Hawaii.
6. How is the value of my car determined?
A: In short, the IRS allows you (the donor) to assess the fair market value of your vehicle. The Kelley Blue Book, AutoList.com, and the NADA Guides may be used as helpful references in determining the Fair Market Value of your vehicle.
We suggest you review IRS Publication 4303 (Acrobat PDF file) which sets forth the manner in which the IRS requires you to determine the value of your donated property. If you need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, then click here.
7. How will the car be picked up?
A: CARS will arrange to have your vehicle towed away by a professionally-licensed, bonded and insured towing company.
8. How long will it take to pick up my car?
A: You will be contacted within three or four business days at the most. If you need your car picked up sooner, please let us know as we may be able to make those arrangements as well.
9. How can I contact you to schedule a pick up?
A: You can contact CARS via telephone (855-550-GIVE) or complete the online donation form (careasy.org/sea-shepherd-conservation-society)
